Oakland, California - San Francisco/BART Project
San Francisco & Bay Area: In California, we are providing the city of San Francisco’s transit system with an update to the latest generation of Communications-Based Train Control (CBTC) technology, which allows trains to be safely controlled digitally. This new integration will modernize the city’s existing train system, enhancing overall safety, lessening wait times, and boosting overall capacity for passengers on board by 40% per trip.
Hawaii - HART Project
Skyline, Honolulu: In Hawaii, we built and delivered the first urban autonomous mass transit system in the United States – from system implementation, maintenance, and delivery of rolling stock as part of our contract with the Honolulu Authority for Rapid Transportation (HART). The state-of-the-art Hitachi technology used in Skyline embraces automatic train control which offers a safer and more efficient transit option compared to car travel, in addition to reducing traffic congestion and eliminating thousands of daily car trips which helps to better balance the island’s delicate environment.
Toronto, Canada - Ontario Line Project
Ontario Line: In Canada, as a part of the Connect 6ix consortium, Hitachi Rail will be delivering a $9 billion CAD project for the Ontario Line comprised of Rolling Stock, Systems Operations and Maintenance (RSSOM), contracted by Metrolinx. The Ontario Line is a 15.6-kilometer standalone rapid transit line that will connect the Ontario Science Centre to Exhibition/Ontario Place as part of an integrated transit network that will make getting around the city more intuitive and environmentally friendly. Once completed, the system will provide faster, more frequent, and reliable access to rapid transit and will improve the quality of life for daily commuters by helping to achieve 28,000 fewer cars on the road each day.
