Toronto, Ontario, Canada (Hybrid)

We are looking for a Senior Electrical Designer to join our team in Toronto.

The successful candidate will work within the hardware design team and HEM Engineering Competence Centre is responsible for design and development of vehicle and wayside/central hardware interface designs, and the development of test methodologies and software test applications for the verification of hardware interface designs, in line with GTSC Quality Management System, and DDQ's process.

Key Responsibilities:

Electro-mechanical Interface Design for Vehicles and Safety Systems

• Strong understanding of engineering development methodologies, design and development process in rail, automotive or relevant industries

• Strong experience and understanding of hardware and software requirements capture, decomposition, verification, validation and full traceability

• Expertise and strong past experience designing and developing electro-mechanical systems and interfaces

• Expertise and strong past experience in electro-mechanical systems and interface verification methodologies and software test applications

• Experienced with electrical design capture with strong skills in AutoCAD Electrical

• Familiarity with Mechanical CAD Tools: AutoCAD LT, SolidWorks, and CREO is an asset

• Familiar and/or having past experience in full-cycle PBA and micro-electronic circuit design in Cadence, Allegro and Mentor tools is an asset

• Basic experience and familiarity in FPGA and SoC design is an asset

Full Stack Web Application Development for Industrial IoT Devices

• Understanding of and experience in full software development life cycle

• Experienced in web application development for Internet of Things (IoT) devices, understanding of TCPI/IP stack

• Preferably experience with full-stack web application development in Django Web Development Framework or other, controlling remote sensors or high-power systems

• Relational database designs is an asset

• Knowledge and understanding of software architectures for IoT Systems using TCP/IP client-server-based applications, APIs

• Development experience in Python, JavaScript, C#

• Experience with Visual Studio Code or similar IDE

• Ruby, Perl & VB scripting experience is considered an asset

• Familiarity and experience with version control environments preferably Git and Bitbucket

• Familiarity and experience with JFrog Artifactory, Docker, and Sphinx

• Knowledge of modern software engineering practices, methods & tools

• Software Engineering Process and Design Methodologies

• Experience with OO software development in C++ Visual Studio, and Microsoft Foundation Classes is considered an asset

• Experience with Linux OS is considered an asset

Required Skills and Experience:

• Bachelor's or Master's degree in Mechatronics, Electrical/Computer or related Engineering discipline

• Preferably past experience in HW/SW Engineering design and development for URS or Equivalent Industry

• Technical Excellence and Strong Engineering Methodology Principles

• Understanding of applicable Railway standards and Safety standards or similar in equivalent industry

• Understanding of URS Products and Platforms

• Proven expertise and experience in the application of Engineering best-practices & methodologies, and improvement of Engineering Design Development and Validation Cycle

• English Language Fluency

• Excellent interpersonal and diplomatic skills needed to deal confidently, courteously, and correctly with both internal and external stakeholders and customers at any level

Preferred Skills and Experience:

• Demonstrates a high degree of initiative, resourcefulness and breadth of knowledge beyond the primary discipline in solving problems

• Stays current with the technology of the discipline and aware of technologies of other disciplines

• Demonstrates a superior level of logical reasoning resulting in effective designs for products and processes, understanding not only the product itself but also the main functions at system level

• Interprets, identifies, and documents the SW and HW requirements, understands and writes test qualification plans and reports

• Ensures both the safety and quality of middleware products

• Contributes to the heightened reuse of product hardware and contributes to improvements in hardware quality

• Understands hardware and software architectures

• Locates and researches source information for design activities, extracting the pertinent data, using it to provide technical recommendations

• Makes timely decisions, both independently and with others, after a thorough evaluation of all relevant factors

• Uses all relevant IDE and other modern software and hardware development tools

• Experienced working within a matrix organization
