Toronto, Ontario, Canada (Hybrid)We are looking for a System Design Specialist to join our team in Toronto
The successful candidate will perform system design, signaling design, analysis, modelling, and simulation to specify communication-based train control systems. They will develop and define system design features to meet Customer requirements.; analyze and evaluate customer requirements and verify compliance with our product system technical requirements.; and. develop and define System and Subsystems requirements in order to fulfill any specific customer requirements on the project. To communicate and gain acceptance of the design with the customer and internal stakeholders
You will be accountable for performing the design work correctly, within cost and schedule limits, as defined in approved work packages. The work is typically defined by the Work Package Manager, then reviewed, modified and agreed with and approved by the Systems Architect and/or Manager.
The System Design Specialist typically works with a team of engineers to define what will be designed, how it will perform and how it will be determined that it is working correctly.
Key Responsibilities:
TECHNICAL:
Prepares and supports customer requirements compliance assessment, and gap analysis.
Converts Customer (internal and/or external) requirements into conceptual designs and prepares associated documentation by performing operational analyses, simulations and technical trade-off studies evaluating alternative design configurations and functional features.
Similarly creates new concepts or modifies existing concepts to fulfil customer requirements.
Prepares system, subsystem, and interface requirement specifications by analyzing and decomposing modelling, refining customer requirements and typical train control domain requirements.
Interfaces and builds strong working relationships with Software, Hardware and ITV groups to ensure timely analysis and resolution of in-house and field test issues and to ensure a good understanding of the System Design.
SAFETY:
Promotes a safety culture where product safety is paramount.
Ensures that safety is built into the design by early identification and resolution of safety related defects.
Required Skills and Experience:
Bachelor’s degree in engineering (Systems, Electrical, Computer), Computer Science, or a closely related field
Entry-level 1-2 years expertise in URS (Urban Rail Signaling) Systems or equivalent educational background
Excellent communication and presentation skills
Ability to work under supervision to produce the required artifacts.
Preferred Skills and Experience:
Experience in using DOORS, Polarion, Melody advance, or other system design and requirement management tools.
Knowledge of systems engineering principles and practices.
Knowledge of systems development life cycle
Experience in developing/reviewing test scenarios and/or procedures from requirements
Rail Signaling knowledge
