Hitachi Rail in Australia

Our European Train Control System (ETCS L2) technology is helping transform passenger, freight and heavy haul railways across Australia. 

In South East Queensland, Hitachi Rail is delivering ETCS Level 2 along more than 200 km of track, including the Shorncliffe line, Cross River Rail tunnels and the Gold Coast line between Kuraby and Varsity Lakes. The scope includes a full end to end technical solution covering onboard, wayside, telecommunications and cybersecurity. 

The Australian team, with support from global colleagues, is also designing and developing a new Traffic Management System and Possession Management System that will work with ETCS L2 to maintain safety at higher capacity and increase reliability, in preparation for population growth and the 2032 Olympic and Paralympic Games.
